A relationship is a developing process happening between two people. There are certain stages that couples go through during this process. Here are the usual stages that are involved in a couple going through a relationship and its progress from dating to the expected end result.
This stage starts off the meeting of two people, the spark that may or may not develop into a relationship. The initial meeting can come in different ways- through a common friend or colleague at work, via the internet, through a common hobby or shared interest, in a party or bar, or any other unique ways and means. This stage makes for the opportunity for two people to find out about each other, whether there is common interest that can take the initial meeting into the next level.
The second stage usually involves discovery about each other in many different aspects. While the initial meeting can already involve early attraction, discoveries about interest and infatuation about each other become more pronounced. Both individuals begin to discover many things about each other even more. Individuals start to look into each other’s behavior, personality traits, and other interesting features. What they discover about each other will eventually keep them closer together.
When partners begin to know more about each other, it starts to give them additional ideas whether they wish to stay together or not. If they decide on the former, then the next stage develops. Couplehood will enable both partners to find out what it means to stay closer together. They start to learn more about each other’s personalities. Trust between each other continues to build. Many consider this as the longest stage since it may take some time for people to learn about each other a little bit better.
Once couples have developed a mutual understanding of each other, time will determine if they move into the next stage or not. This stage will enable couples to forge a better commitment to stay with each other. It is at this stage that couples start making goals for their future and a life spent together. Couples have also learned about each other’s good and bad traits and have learned how to handle and live with them.
