Dating Safety For College Students

When it comes to dating, the young people always seem to get the most fun out of it. But as they get older, such activities become serious. By the time they get to college, dating no longer seems to be as carefree as they were before. There are now concerns regarding safety being put into play.

Dating safety for college students is important because it is a different situation than before. When first going to college, the students are exposed to a wider group of people, most of them strangers coming from different parts of the country and even beyond. There are different cultures to consider as well as different habits to be aware of. It is not exactly the same as dating in an environment where people know each other more. In a college environment, the risks of dating become even more pronounced. That is why it is important to be aware of the dating safety and following common sense rules when going out and about. Here are just some of them.

Inform someone you know and trust.

When you go out, especially on a blind date, make sure that you do not keep it to yourself. Make sure that you inform a friend or a classmate where you are going and when. This will ensure that someone will know about your whereabouts when you go dating.

As much as possible, go with a friend.

When going out on a date, you might wish it to be intimate. But this could sometimes be risky. It is a better option for you to try going on a date accompanied by someone you know, especially if the date is with someone you just met. Try to establish the getting to know stage first by ensuring your safety. Once you and a friend know more about your date and a certain level of trust is established, then you might proceed with going out on the next date on your own.  But until that trust and familiarity has not yet been established, it is better to be safe than to be sorry.

Choose a public place for a date.

Going on a date in a place where there are lots of people is a safer bet compared to going somewhere more private. The aim here is to stay safe while you have fun dating. Going in a public place ensures that there are a lot of people that you can ask for help in case something bad happens that you did not expect.

Refrain from drinking alcohol.

It is also important to avoid drinking alcohol, especially if you cannot control it when you start it. Getting drunk can make you vulnerable to risks that you may not be aware of later on. Too much alcohol can cloud your mind and getting drunk may cause you to pass out. This is a situation that you do not want to end up in later during your date.

Watch your drink.

Aside from refraining from drinking alcohol, make sure that you always keep watch over your own glass. It is a common occurrence during dates as well as parties that a drug may be slipped into your drink without you knowing it. These drugs aim to make you unconscious and vulnerable to risks. Keep a close watch on what you drink and make sure that nobody gets a chance of slipping something into it.
